GCA Announces Administrator Retirement & New Head of School

GCA Announces Administrator Retirement & New Head of School

After 33 years as Gateway Christian Academy’s Administrator, Sam Postlewaite has announced his retirement from full-time school leadership.  His retirement will take place at the conclusion of 2018-2019 school year.

Mr. Postlewaite provides the following commentary about his decision to retire …

In the fall of 2017, I approached Pastor Patrick with the idea of my stepping down as head administrator of GCA to clear the way for someone who could help him take this ministry to the next level of excellence in Christian education.  Pastor asked me to stay on until we could make sure God was in this endeavor and that the timing was right to make the best transition for all concerned.  We believe God has once again directed our paths, and it is time to put His plan into action.

With grateful hearts to God and to all of you at Gateway (over the past 35 years), I am announcing that this will be my last year as Administrator and Elementary Principal of GCA. For 35 years, this has been our life, our vocation, our school, our church, our friends, our family, our heartbeat, our identity…and we love it!  It is one of the hardest decisions we have ever made, but we believe it is God’s will, His timing, and His best for us and for Gateway. We are confident GCA will be in good hands and that the best is yet to come for all of us!  God bless you all and God bless Gateway.

Pastor Patrick writes, “During his tenure as Administrator, Sam Postlewaite has been a model of Christian character, spiritual leadership, faithfulness, passion, and educational influence.  More than just educating students to complete grades or to graduate, Mr. Postlewaite has impacted so many spiritually with his inspiration and encouragement to truly live for the Lord.”

Replacing Sam Postlewaite will be Jeff Postlewaite as the new Head of School beginning this summer.  For the last eleven years, Jeff has served as Gateway Christian Academy’s Middle School and High School Principal, along with teaching in the academy.  He knows the heart of the school because he has been able to experience GCA personally as a 1999 graduate, as a staff member for the last 16 years, and as a parent of three current students.  When the transition takes place, he will step out of the classroom and assume all Head of School leadership responsibilities.

“I am passionate about providing opportunities for educational, social, and spiritual growth to children so they can boldly give glory to God in any field of study, profession, or area of service they choose to pursue,” Jeff states about becoming GCA’s new Head of School. “I am committed to continually raising the academic standards of GCA by maintaining a strong faculty, ensuring rigorous and relevant curriculum, and creating an environment for students to seek educational excellence that carries on into their next level.  In addition, I recognize the importance of having a supportive and loving environment for all students that is encouraged among staff, parents, and students alike.”  Jeff further explains, “Above all, I recognize the purpose of every pursuit should be the glorification of our Creator rather than self.  GCA students will continue to be taught, by word and example, that as we seek to honor God, we are fulling our greatest calling.”

“I feel Jeff is qualified to lead GCA based on his character, experience, knowledge, abilities, passion, vision, and understanding of what is expected for the future of GCA,” Pastor Patrick comments.  “When I communicated with him my vision for the school, his responsibilities as the new Head of School, and the expectations moving forward, I feel confident that Jeff is capable of producing those results.   I believe you will see noticeable changes in the near future for the better and that a stronger GCA will exist moving forward.”

Jeff Postlewaite possesses a Masters in Educational Administration from Pensacola Christian College (2008) and holds a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education from Southeastern Free Will Baptist College (2003).  He and his wife Janet have three children: Samantha (14), Jack (13), and Riley (9).
